Hennepin Trauma Surgery Research

Dr. Lumbard is a trauma and critical care surgeon in the Department of Surgery at Hennepin Healthcare. He is a 'white paper' research scholar with Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute and Chair of Trauma Research at Hennepin County Medical Center. Dr. Lumbard completed his medical training at the Medical College of Wisconsin and general surgery residency training at Hennepin Healthcare followed by surgical critical care training at University of Texas - San Antonio. 

Dr. Nygaard has been the research director and Associate Program Director for the General Surgery residency program at Hennepin Healthcare since 2012. She holds an Associate Professor appointment at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Nygaard completed her PhD from the University of Minnesota in Microbiology, Immunology, and Cancer Biology with a focus on viral pathogenesis. Since joining Hennepin County Medical Center, she has focused on clinical outcomes based research in the areas of trauma, health disparities, and medical education.

Ms. Colonna has been the senior research coordinator with the Department of Surgery at Hennepin Healthcare since 2018.

Mr. Vang joined the surgery research team as a data scientist at Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute in 2024. He attained his master's degree in Public Health Data Science from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
